Health Safety Environmental & Security Manager

Job Purpose/Overview

At Lavazza, the HSE&S Manager is responsible for leading and executing the technical and functional requirements related to the health, safety, environmental and security aspects for Lavazza Group. This role will direct the on-site safety function and be responsible for the oversight and continuous improvement of all existing company safety standards, environmental policies, processes, documentation, and procedures.


The preferred candidate will have experience implementing and upholding the highest HSE&S standards and workplace culture across these areas and also have experience with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, OSHA and PA DEP. Key Responsibilities

•    Directs and promotes maintaining an engaging and proactive safety culture.
•    Ensures that the local HSE management systems are in compliance with Lavazza Group HSE policies, practices, guidelines and standards.
•    Supports leadership in setting companywide HSE objectives for all associates.
•    Lead and manage the company’s process for audits and certifications related to the HSE System.
•    Manage internal audits including oversight of preventative and corrective actions.
•    Manage two direct reports (Safety Coordinator and Environmental Specialist).
•    Versed in HSE management systems, processes, and reporting.
•    Provide input and counsel to senior leadership in matters pertaining to health, safety, and well-being while ensuring adherence to all federal, state and local standards.
•    Input standard reporting requirements for Lavazza Professional into the Lavazza Group reporting sites for environmental and safety.
•    Assist in the achievement of Lavazza Group “Roadmap to Zero” initiative which aims to completely neutralize Lavazza’s carbon footprint by 2030.
•    Liaise and network with HSE colleagues globally ensuring the Lavazza Group achieves its HSE goals.
•    Manage the sites “Near Miss” program and targets aimed at promoting a pro-active and incident free workplace.
•    Lead all safety reporting requirements of our monthly Supply Leadership Team meeting.
•    Manage and create safety related documents, policies and procedures in compliance with regulatory agencies, e.g., OSHA, ISO, DEP, etc…
•    Accountable for the execution of all site Environmental Permit Compliance, including the site's air permit, Stormwater, Water, Spill Control and Wastewater. Ensures all testing required through permits and company standards are met on time.
•    Executes proper management of the sites hazardous waste management activities to ensure 100% compliance with federal, state, local and company regulations and standards.
•    Collaborates with Occupational Health and Wellness Management team to ensure effective injury case management process is carried out, well understood and functioning as planned.
•    Liaise with state and local governmental agencies to ensure all standards are maintained and upheld.
•    Manage the plant emergency operations team and emergency preparedness actions for the site.
•    Direct, manage and provide expertise for incident investigations, case management, near misses, environmental and/or equipment damage.
•    Manage all safety and environmental reporting statistics required for the site.
•    Other duties as assigned.



Job Specifications/Qualifications

•    4-year degree from an accredited institution, Science Degree or equivalent experience
•    CSP (Certified Safety Professional), ASP (Associate Safety Professional), CHSO (Certified Health and Safety Official), SMS Safety Management Specialist certification(s)
•    Strong knowledge of Occupational Safety & Health plus Environmental Health is required
•    Experience in the Food & Beverage industry preferred
•    Basic knowledge of Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP)
•    5-7 years’ experience as an HSE Manager successfully leading, developing, and implementing HSE programs and systems
•    Experience pro-actively preventing workplace incidents through the establishment of a robust all-hands safety-oriented culture 
•    Experience with HSE management systems with compliance to ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
•    Experience performing internal audits to prescribed standards
•    Experience with PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) standards and reporting
•    Experience conducting in-depth job safety analysis
•    Experience managing suppliers and partners who assist us in the successful administration of our safety programs, processes, and systems
•    Experience developing, promoting, and maintaining a healthy and incident free workplace
•    Ability to communicate and engage with associates at all levels to ensure a healthy workplace
•    Ability to oversee a contract security team
•    Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
•    Strong written and verbal communication skills
•    Must be able periodically to work nights and weekends for specific projects
