JOB OVERVIEW
The Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health, safety, and environmental programs at the West Chester facility. This role operates with a high degree of independence, exercising discretion and judgment in interpreting regulations, assessing risk, and implementing solutions to ensure compliance and promote a proactive safety culture.
This position serves as a technical subject matter expert and key partner to site leadership, supporting regulatory compliance, incident prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with Lavazza’s HSE standards.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
HSE Program Management & Compliance
- Lead implementation and ongoing management of site HSE programs in compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations
- Interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into site-specific policies, procedures, and training
- Ensure compliance with Lavazza NA HSE standards, policies, and management systems
- Support and maintain ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems
Risk Assessment & Continuous Improvement
- Lead hazard analyses, risk assessments (e.g., JSA, ergonomic assessments), and environmental impact evaluations
- Analyze safety and environmental data (e.g., dashboards, trends) to identify risks and drive proactive improvements
- Lead corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) related to incidents, near misses, and audit findings
- Promote and sustain a proactive, incident-free workplace culture
Incident Management & Investigation
- Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis and development of corrective actions
- Manage case tracking for safety incidents, near misses, and first aid events
- Prepare and communicate incident reports and trend analyses to site leadership
Training & Culture Development
- Develop and deliver HSE training programs, including onboarding and ongoing education
- Manage and maintain training systems (e.g., Alchemy) and ensure accurate recordkeeping
- Promote employee engagement and participation in safety programs and initiatives
Systems, Audits & Reporting
- Prepare and manage HSE metrics, reports, and dashboards for internal and corporate reporting
- Support internal and external audits; lead corrective actions and ensure audit readiness
- Manage key systems such as SDS databases, training platforms, and compliance tracking tools
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Operations, Engineering, HR, and Maintenance to address HSE risks and support business operations
- Provide guidance to leadership on HSE matters, including regulatory interpretation and risk mitigation
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors to ensure compliance with site safety and environmental standards
Additional Responsibilities
- Stay current on regulatory changes and industry best practices
- Participate in site and corporate HSE initiatives and projects
- Perform other duties as assigned
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of HSE experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations required
- Basic knowledge of Good Manfacturing Processes (GMP) required.
- Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 preferred
- Professional certifications (e.g., ASP, CSP) preferred
- Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) Certification through The Board of Certified Safety Professionals recommended.
- Recommended completion of 132 Hour Occupational Safety and Health Professional Certificate through OSHA academy occupational safety & health training online (includes the following certificates):
- Safety Committee Member Certificate 32 hours
- Safety Committee Chair Certificate 36 hours
- Occupational Safety and Health Trainer (Train-the-Trainer) Certificate 36 hours
- Occupational Safety and Health Supervisor Certificate 36 hours
- Occupational Safety and Health Specialist Certificate 44 hours
- Occupational Safety and Health Manager Certificate 48 hours
- DOT Hazmat Employee & RCRA Hazardous Waste Training Certification through qualified HAZMAT training sites recommended.
- CPR First-Aid & AED Certified through American Heart Association recommended.
Physical, Mental, and Travel Requirements
- Must be able to climb and access all stairs, ladders, and work platforms with relatively ease and no restrictions.
- May be required to travel to other Lavazza production locations or attend off-site Health & Safety Conferences or training sessions.
