JOB OVERVIEW
The Director of Procurement is responsible for leading the strategic sourcing, procurement operations, and supplier quality management for all direct (raw materials, packaging, coffee, and production inputs) and indirect (logistics, marketing, professional services, facilities, and capital investments) categories. This leader will drive sourcing strategy, supplier performance, cost optimization, and risk mitigation to support Lavazza’s business growth and operational excellence in the North American market.
JOB RESPONSBILITIES
- Develop and execute the North America procurement strategy in alignment with global procurement objectives and regional business priorities.
- Lead and mentor direct and indirect procurement teams, fostering capability development, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with executive leadership on long-term sourcing strategies, supplier innovation, and sustainability initiatives.
- Direct Procurement
- Oversee sourcing and negotiation for raw materials, ingredients, packaging, and production inputs to ensure quality, service, and cost competitiveness.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and R&D teams to optimize supply continuity and new product development (NPD) sourcing.
- Monitor market trends and commodity price movements to inform strategic decisions and mitigate risks.
- Indirect Procurement
- Lead category management and sourcing for indirect spend areas including logistics, marketing services, professional services, IT, and capital projects.
- Develop strategic supplier relationships and drive spend efficiency through aggregation, standardization, and process improvement.
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure procurement delivers value beyond cost, supporting business agility, innovation, and sustainability goals.
- Oversee supplier qualification, performance, and development programs to ensure quality, reliability, and sustainability.
- Implement and manage KPIs for supplier performance, cost reduction, and risk management.
- Partner with the Quality and Operations teams to establish and maintain supplier quality standards, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage supplier issue resolution, corrective actions, and ongoing performance monitoring.
- Champion a “quality first” culture across the supplier network to protect Lavazza’s brand integrity and product excellence.
- Deliver annual productivity, savings, and working capital improvement targets.
- Ensure compliance with global procurement policies, ethics, and governance standards.
- Serve as the key regional liaison with the Global Procurement function based in Italy, ensuring strategic alignment and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to global category strategies and support enterprise-wide sourcing initiatives where appropriate.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive procurement experience, including both direct and indirect categories, preferably in a CPG or food & beverage manufacturing environment.
- Proven success leading regional or global procurement teams.
- Strong negotiation, supplier management, and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated experience in cost optimization, sourcing strategy development, and supplier innovation.
- Experience working within a global matrix organization and managing across cultures and time zones.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and leadership skills.
- SAP or similar ERP and procurement systems knowledge preferred.
- Up to 10% travel required, including possible international to Headquarter (Turin, Italy)
